Null (German title: Die Nulllinie. Roman aus dem Krieg; English title: The Zero Line. Novel from the War) was published by Rewohlt in a translation by Olaf Kühl.

The novel is based on Twardoch’s personal experience of multiple travels to the front line in eastern Ukraine. The publisher’s blurb writes that “he accompanied soldiers, officers, and ordinary people as well as strategists, delivering aid, witnessing death, and facing danger himself.”

It adds that in the novel, “Twardoch examines the 20th century and ponders the concept of violence through the lens of Thucydides. Enriched by his experiences and readings, as well as his conversations with people fighting for everything, this novel is a deep exploration of life, freedom, death, and courage.”

Twardoch, 45, is among Poland’s top best-selling writers. Several years ago, his novel The King of Warsaw which was published by Amazon Crossing in an English translation by Sean Gasper Bye, was nominated for the Literature Prize of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development EBRD.

His books, also including Morphine, Drach, and The Kingdom, have sold over 1 million copies.

Since the end of 2022, Twardoch has been involved in providing assistance to the Ukrainian army, delivering drones, vehicles and military equipment purchased with funds raised through public collections.

In 2024, he received the Stand with Ukraine Award from Poland’s Ukrainian community.
