During the rehearsal, she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and greeted with Sto lat, a traditional Polish song wishing long life.

Asked by reporters about the milestone, Duczmal said she found it hard to believe she was entering another decade.

She joked that her main concern was deciding whether to begin the rehearsal with a work by Johann Sebastian Bach or Franz Liszt.

Duczmal founded the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra in 1968 and served as its music director for a record 56 years.

In 2024, she handed over the baton to her daughter Anna Duczmal-Mróz, while continuing to conduct the orchestra on occasion.

Based in the western city of Poznań, the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra is one of public broadcaster Polish Radio’s resident ensembles. Under Duczmal’s direction, it has performed widely across Europe as well as in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil.

The orchestra has appeared at leading concert halls including the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Vienna’s Musikverein, London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Milan’s La Scala, performing music ranging from the Baroque to the present.
