The programme includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, Gustav Mahler's Rückert-Lieder with German soprano Julia Kleiter, and Ukrainian composer Bohdana Frolyak's Gloria, a piece dedicated "to all the heroes who have given their lives in this terrible war and to all who stand and defend Ukraine from this total evil."
The inaugural concert in Warsaw will be followed by performances at St. Paul's Cathedral in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie and Dublin's National Concert Hall.
The tour will conclude with two performances at David Geffen Hall at New York's Lincoln Center on August 25 and 26.
The programme also features Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem, with soprano Ailyn Pérez, mezzo-soprano Natalie Lewis, tenor René Barbera and bass Soloman Howard.
Other highlights include Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs, sung by Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen, and Ukrainian composer Maxim Kolomiiets' Suite from the opera The Mothers of Kherson, based on testimonies from Ukrainian mothers who managed to rescue their children from a camp in Crimea under Russian control.
The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra was formed in 2022 by Canadian-Ukrainian conductor Keri-Lynn Wilson in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
It brings together leading musicians based in Ukraine, those performing with European ensembles and those displaced by the war.
The orchestra was created in collaboration with the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Polish National Opera, and the Polish and Ukrainian culture ministries.
