Directed by Michał Rosa, Piłsudski tells the story of Marshal Józef Piłsudski, who became the country’s first Chief of State after World War I ended in 1918.
On November 11, 1918, when an armistice ending the war was signed, Piłsudski arrived in Warsaw, announcing the country's independence after more than a century of partitions and foreign rule.
The film explores the early years of Piłsudski who, aside from being a talented politician and military leader, was in private life “driven by passions” and “torn between the two women in his life – his wife and lover,” the movie’s Warsaw-based producer, the Kadr film studio, said on its website.
The film received financial support from the Polish Film Institute and Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
Piłsudski is scheduled to hit Polish cinemas on September 13. Piłsudski is played by well-known actor Borys Szyc.
