One of the few women conductors in the international music circuit, Diakun is a graduate of the Music Academy in Wrocław, south-western Poland.

She was also a postgraduate student in Vienna. She made her debut in 2002. Four years later, she became an assistant to Polish-Russian conductor Andrzej Borejko at the Bern Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland.

She has developed a fine career, appearing not only with top Polish orchestras but also with leading foreign ensembles such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Liverpool Philharmonic, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and the Czech Radio Orchestra in Prague.

In 2015, she was a recipient of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Conducting Fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Festival.

Diakun is a dedicated supporter of contemporary music, working closely with the Paris-based Ensemble InterContemporain and the Amsterdam-based Asko-Schönberg chamber orchestra.
