As the exact date of the composer's birth is subject to debate, with his birth certificate stating February 22, 1810 and family tradition insisting on March 1 of that year, a week-long series of commemorative events is planned.
The Chopin Museum in Warsaw has put up an exhibition of some of the composer’s autograph manuscripts and another one called Chopin and Friends.
The latter gives insights into Chopin’s relationships with his publisher Julian Fontana and several French musicians, including cellist August Franchomme, pianist Camille Pleyel, and singer Pauline Viardot.
There is also a focus on Chopin's ties with the prominent writer George Sand, with whom he spent nine years of his life.
As a special bonus for visitors this week, tickets to the museum cost a nominal PLN 1 and everyone is offered a Chopin souvenir.
