He had been suffering from the coronavirus.
A professor at the University of Gdańsk, Limon published extensively on drama and theatre in Poland, Britain, the United States and Germany. His literary output included translations of several English plays into Polish as well as four novels.
In the early 1990s, Limon discovered traces of a Shakespearean playhouse in Gdańsk that resembled the Fortune Theatre in London. He initiated and brought to a successful conclusion the construction of a replica of the historic theatre, of which he served as director until his death.
He also founded an annual Shakespearean Festival which attracted to Gdańsk drama companies from across Europe.
Limon’s honours included the Order of the British Empire (OBE), the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Reborn Poland, the Jan Hevelius Academic Award of the City of Gdańsk, and the Gloria Artis Medal of Cultural Merit from the Polish government.
