The book is to be adapted for the stage by Majok, who, together with Florence Welch, frontwoman of Florence and the Machine, is also to write lyrics for songs composed by Welch and musician Thomas Bartlett, also known as Doveman.

Majok has been quoted by the media as saying: “I’m thrilled, honored, and inspired to work with this company of extraordinary artists.”

Majok was born in 1985 in Bytom, southern Poland. She emigrated to the United States with her family at the age of five. She lives in Manhattan and is married to Polish-born US actor Josiah Bania. Her plays have been staged in New York, Washington and Chicago.

In 2018, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play Cost of Living. She is currently developing an original series for HBO based on her play Queens.

Her play Ironbound is in the current repertoire of Warsaw’s National Theatre.
