The United Nations’ Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2021) is expected to bring together thousands of people from all over the world, from policy makers and entrepreneurs to academics and NGO activists.
They are set to discuss the challenges and opportunities offered by the web as well as ways to fully exploit its potential, Poland’s Ministry of Digital Affairs has said.
Held in Poland for the first time, at the Katowice International Congress Centre, the global event will be accompanied by a range of cultural attractions, the state PAP news agency has reported.
Opening concert
The conference opens on Monday evening with a special concert by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s National Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR).
Televised live by state-run broadcaster TVP from 9 p.m., the concert, entitled “The Wings of the Mind,” is set to feature fresh and eclectic takes on some of Poland’s best known musical works, many of which are familiar to audiences worldwide, having appeared in various film scores, organisers said.
As classical and jazz music by such greats as Fryderyk Chopin and the likes of Wojciech Kilar and Krzysztof Komeda is fused with rock and electronica, the varied mixture of sounds will provide an ideal soundtrack to the Internet Governance Forum, the Polish digital affairs ministry said.
The performing bill includes young musicians as well as popular and well-loved stars, from Stanisław Soyka to Natalia Kukulska and Piotr Cugowski, organisers added.
Other attractions
Day two, Tuesday, December 7, will see a recital by the acclaimed Austrian pianist Ingolf Wunder, who won multiple prizes at Warsaw’s Chopin International Piano Competition in 2010.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, December 8, the Katowice International Congress Centre will host IGF 2021’s Music Night, with “all music enthusiasts, regardless of their skill level, invited to play and sing together,” organisers said.
