Entitled “Feel Ukraine,” the event is being organised by a foundation called Głos Kobiet Ukrainy (Voice of Ukraine’s Women), Polish state news agency PAP reported.
The concert is designed to help Ukrainian women residing in Poland and “express gratitude to the Polish nation, which provides us with help and support,” the Ukrainian embassy in Poland said.
Raising funds for child refugees
During the event, organisers will raise funds for the rehabilitation of 57 Ukrainian refugee children, who are now based in Lviv, western Ukraine. The group includes kids with disabilities, orphans and children who have been deprived of parental care, the embassy said.
The concert hopes to raise USD 30,000 for the child refugees, as well as USD 3,500 for the treatment of a wounded Ukrainian soldier.
A host of acts will take to the stage, headlined by this year’s Eurovision Song Contest winners Kalush Orchestra. Other performers include Wellboy, Jerry Heil, Kazka, Dayton and Polish rapper Sarius.
According to the organisers, the event seeks to “draw attention to the role of women, who protect what’s most important - the future of our children; thank the brotherly Polish nation for the good and help that Polish people are giving us with at this difficult time."
Another aim is to "popularise contemporary and traditional Ukrainian culture, which embodies the strength of the nation.”
The “Feel Ukraine” concert begins at 6 p.m. at the Mrągowo Amphitheatre.
Friday is day 149 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
