The European Film Academy Board, in consultation with a wide range of experts, has announced the 2022 Academy's Feature Film Selection.
In a second part of the selection process, a further 10 to 15 movies running for the European Film Awards in the Feature Film category will be announced in September.
The shortlist for the European Film Awards will be made public on November 8, and the European Film Awards ceremony will be held in Reykjavík, Iceland on December 10.
Skolimowski's EO is a modern interpretation of the 1960s cult classic Au Hasard Balthazar (Balthazar, at Random) by Robert Bresson, which follows a donkey as he changes owners, most of whom treat him badly.
The journey of the donkey in Skolimowski's movie begins in a Polish circus and ends in an Italian slaughterhouse.
The film, with a script by Skolimowski and Ewa Piaskowska, is a Polish-Italian co-production. It had its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Festival, winning the Grand Jury Prize.
Skolimowski, 84, is one of Poland’s most internationally renowned directors. His credits include Identification Mark, Barrier, Walkover, Hands Up, Deep End, Four Nights with Anna, and Essential Killing.
Last month he won the Ischia Visconti Legend Award at the Global Film & Music Festival in Italy.
