In the Canadian-Irish-American production, the 49-year-old Pole will play King Yaroslav the Wise, the Grand Prince of Kyiv whose 11th-century reign marked the heyday of a state known as Kyivan Rus’.

Vikings: Valhalla is a sequel to History Channel’s Vikings, an international hit that attracted millions of viewers worldwide.

It is set 100 years after the events of Vikings and chronicles Leif Eriksson's conquests at the end of the Viking Age, marked by the 1066 Battle of Stamford Bridge.

So far, the Netflix show has generally received favourable reviews, scoring 90 percent in Rotten Tomatoes’ critics ratings and earning a score of 7.2 on IMDb.

Appearing in Vikings: Valhalla will be Dorociński’s second big part in Netlix’s productions after he played the Soviet chess champion Vasily Borgov in the popular miniseries The Queen’s Gambit.

Last month, it was announced that Dorociński will appear in two films of the iconic series of the American action spy franchise Mission: Impossible.

Season two of Vikings: Valhalla with Dorociński in the cast will premiere on Netflix on January 12.
