The exhibition is part of the international ”Art Against War” project, which was launched in response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
The idea for the project came from Ukrainian artists Tatiana Illyahova, Alina Slavgorodska, Mykhaylo Dovhan and Natasha Borisova, who have taken temporary residence in Rokytov pri Humennom, northeastern Slovakia. They were aided by Slovak artist Miroslav Capovčák.
In addition to works by the initiators of the project, the show features artwork by several Ukrainian and Slovak painters as well as Polish artists Joanna Topolska–Uliasz and Małgorzata Twardzik-Wilk
The artists have invited their colleagues from across Europe "to join in and in this way have their share in the victory over their common enemy," according to organizers.
All the artists offered their works for the show without a fee. The proceeds from their sale will go toward assistance to the families of Ukrainian soldiers from the Vinnytsia region who have been victims of the war.
According to Małgorzata Baranowska-Mika of the arts centre in Krosno, the ”Art Against War” project will last until Ukraine wins the war against Russia.
It will culminate with an exhibition at the National Academy of Ukrainian Art in Kyiv.
