At 41, Urbański will be the youngest conductor at the helm of one of Poland’s leading musical institutions in its post-war history. He is to unveil his plans for his first season in Warsaw at the end of the month.
He will replace Andrzej Boreyko, who began his tenure as the Warsaw Philharmonic’s Artistic Director in 2019.
A graduate of the Music Academy in Warsaw in 2007, Urbański first served for two years as assistant conductor with the Warsaw Philharmonic.
He has since developed a fine international career, serving as Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2021 and working closely with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester.
During the 2023/24 season Urbański is to conduct the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Münchner Philharmoniker, and Wiener Symphoniker.
