‘Green Border’ triumphs at Poland’s Eagles film awards

Agnieszka Holland’s "Green Border" has been named best film at Poland’s prestigious Orły (Eagles) awards.

The 75-year-old director was also honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the 2024 Polish Film Awards, known as the Eagles.

Her latest film, Green Border, tells the story of a migrant crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border.

Meanwhile, Paweł Maślona walked away with the prize for best director when the annual awards were handed out by the Polish Film Academy at a ceremony in Warsaw on Monday evening.

Maślona's Scarborn, a historical drama that tells the story of Polish-American liberty hero Tadeusz Kościuszko, also won awards for best script, best sound, best make-up, best costumes and best supporting actress.

In other key awards, Eryk Kulm was named best leading actor for his role in Michał Kwieciński's Filip, while Magdalena Cielecka took home the Eagle for best leading actress for Sławomir Fabicki's Lęk (Anxiety), public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

The Polish Film Awards, established in 1999, honour the achievements of filmmakers in multiple categories.

At last year’s Eagles awards, Jerzy Skolimowski scooped the prize for best director, while his Oscar-nominated EO was named best film and claimed five other statuettes.
