'Cyberpunk 2077', created by the Polish studio CD Projekt Red, won the trophy in the 'Evolving Game' category. It is awarded to games with the best ongoing support from their developers - which includes providing constant updates that remove bugs, optimise performance and expand gameplay.
'Cyberpunk 2077' was also nominated in the 'EE Players' Choice' category - but this honour was finally claimed by 'Baldur's Gate 3'. Nominated in 11 out of 18 categories, and going home with as many as 5 trophies, this title turned out to be the biggest winner of Thursday's ceremony. Other BAFTA categories won by 'Baldur's Gate 3' this year were the 'Best Game', 'Best Music', 'Best Narrative' and 'Best Supporting Role Performance'.
Published in late 2020 by Poland's CD Projekt Red, 'Cyberpunk 2077' is a worldwide hit video game - which sold over 25 million copies worldwide. It was one of the most anticipated video games of all time, and is reported to be the second most expensive ever in terms of production costs.
However, due to its extremely ambitious world-building, dazzling graphics and almost infinite gameplay depth - at the time of its release 'Cyberpunk 2077' was marred by bugs, sub-par performance issues and other technical problems, widely commented on by players and experts alike.
By winning the 'Evolving Game' category at BAFTAs 2024, the Polish creators of 'Cyberpunk 2077' prove best that they never stopped to address these matters - and did really well to resolve them. Both the ongoing sales and constantly improving rating scores of their game seem to second that as well.
