The agreement with Music Theatre International, a New York-based licensing agency, allows the Warsaw company to stage "Wicked" as a non-replica production with Polish lyrics and its own unique format.

Originally premiering on Broadway in 2003, "Wicked" won three Tony Awards and has since had over 8,000 performances. The musical has been a staple on London's West End since 2006 and has seen numerous international productions.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, "Wicked" is loosely inspired by L. Frank Baum’s novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and its film adaptation. The Warsaw production is set to debut in the spring of 2025, under the direction of Wojciech Kępczyński, who has led the Roma Theatre since 1998. Michał Wojnarowski will provide the Polish lyrics, while Jakub Lubowicz will oversee the musical direction.

The Roma Theatre has a history of successful non-replica productions of major hits, including "The Phantom of the Opera," "Cats," and "Les Misérables."
