The Polish Oscar Committee approved by the Academy

We are pleased to announce that the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has approved the members of the Oscar Committee from Poland, and this information is now authorized for public release, according to the Polish Film Institute (PISF) website.

The list of next year’s Oscar Committee members was approved by Poland’s Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Hanna Wróblewska, at the request of PISF.

The committee will be chaired by director Paweł Pawlikowski, who won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film for „Ida”, the first such Oscar for a Polish feature film, and the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival for „Cold War.”

The committee will select Poland's candidate for the 97th Academy Awards in the category of Best International Feature Film, which will be awarded at the ceremony scheduled for the night of March 2-3, 2025.

The committee includes, among others, Polish cinematographer and screenwriter Sławomir Idziak, actress Krystyna Janda, actor Tomasz Ziętek, film scholar and historian Tomasz Kolankiewicz, Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival organizer Artur Liebhart, Polish pianist and jazz musician Marcin Masecki, and journalist and presenter Grażyna Torbicka, as mentioned on the PISF website.

The Polish Film Institute added that details regarding the meeting schedule and press conference announcing the Polish Oscar candidate will be provided at a later date. 

According to the regulations, the official submission of Poland's Oscar candidate must be completed by Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the latest, reported the Polish state news agency PAP.

The film selection is decided by a majority vote. In the event of a tie, the chairman of the committee has the deciding vote.
