Oscars 2025: Polish co-production 'The Girl with the Needle' receives a nomination

The nominees for the Best International Feature Film Oscar include 'I'm Still Here' by Walter Salles (Brazil), 'Emilia Perez' by Jacques Audiard (France), 'The Seed of the Sacred Fig' by Mohammad Rasoulof (Germany), and 'Flow' by Gints Zilbalodis (Latvia).

Among the nominees is also 'Girl with a Needle,' directed by Magnus von Horn, a graduate of the Łódź Film School, representing Denmark.

The film tells the story of a young factory worker, Karoline (Vic Carmen Sonne), who finds herself alone and pregnant, deciding to seek help from an illegal adoption agency run by Dagmar (Trine Dyrholm).

This narrative is inspired by the true story of a woman who was sentenced to death in 1921.

The production features Polish filmmakers, including cinematographer Michał Dymek, production designer Jagna Dobesz, costume designer Małgorzata Fudala, editor Agnieszka Glińska, and producer Mariusz Włodarski (Lava Films).

'Green Border' by Agnieszka Holland, submitted by producer Marcin Wierzchosławski in the general categories, did not receive a nomination.

The Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Conan O'Brien hosting for the first time as an American actor, comedian, and writer.
