The Second Prize went to Krzysztof Wierciński, who will also bypass the preliminary round and proceed directly to the main competition.

Dubiel, 21, is a student at the Music Academy in Kraków, southern Poland. A laureate of several national and international competitions, he has performed in numerous venues in Poland and abroad.

Krzysztof Wierciński (born February 22, 2003, in Warsaw) is a student of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. He previously took lessons from such eminent pianists and teachers as Vanessa Latarche, Alexandre Gavrylyuk,  Dang Thai-Son,  Nikolai Demidenko, Janusz Olejniczak, Andrzej Jasiński, and Tobias Koch. His successes include Fifth Prize at the ‘Artur Rubinstein in memoriam’ International Young Pianists’ Competition in Bydgoszcz in 2021.

Twenty-eight pianists took part in the 53rd edition of the National Chopin Competition, an event considered a major test for up-and-coming Polish pianists ahead of the international competition in the autumn.

In two months, a selection panel will announce the names of 160 pianists invited to Warsaw for the preliminary stage of the competition.

Eighty of them will compete in the 19th edition of the International Chopin Piano Competition, which begins on October 2.

The winner will receive a cash prize of EUR 60,000, along with future solo and orchestral engagements and recording opportunities.
