This year's awards were particularly aimed at celebrating businesses that have helped the economy through the worst of the coronavirus crisis.

Polish Radio CEO Agnieszka Kamińska told those at the awards ceremony on Thursday that companies singled out for praise by the broadcaster this year "contributed to the country's economic growth during the difficult time of the pandemic."

"Carrying out its mission as a public broadcaster, Polish Radio supports initiatives that help build the country's economic potential," Kamińska said.

The awards were presented in four categories: Top Innovative Product, Best Corporate Governance, Business Excellence in Time of COVID-19, and Top Philanthropist.

They went to companies including Solaris Bus & Coacha leading European manufacturer of electric buses, biotechnology company Selvita, and state-owned Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Meanwhile, a special award went to energy giant Tauron for its focus on the development of renewable energy sources, including hydroelectric power plants and wind and photovoltaic farms, the IAR news agency reported.
