Polish gov’t proposes minimum wage hike

Poland’s government has proposed a plan to increase the country’s minimum wage to PLN 3,383 (EUR 738, USD 792) a month from January next year, followed by a further hike to PLN 3,450 (EUR 752, USD 808) from July 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, the minimum hourly rate would go up to PLN 22.10 (EUR 4.80, USD 5.20) effective January 1 and PLN 22.50 (EUR 4.90, USD 5.30) as of July 1, 2023, officials said.

The proposed figures are still subject to consultation with the government’s social partners as part of the Council for Social Dialogue, state news agency PAP reported.

The country’s minimum monthly wage rose to PLN 3,010 (EUR 656, USD 705) at the start of this year, from PLN 2,800 in 2021.

Meanwhile, the minimum hourly rate in Poland is currently set at PLN 19.60 (EUR 4.30, USD 4.60), up from PLN 18.30 a year earlier.

The average gross Polish monthly wage in April was PLN 6,626.95 (EUR 1,430, USD 1,510), the state-run Central Statistical Office (GUS) announced last month.
