The state-owned company on Wednesday signed a letter of intent for small modular reactors (SMRs) with US developer Last Energy during a business conference in Nadarzyn near Warsaw, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Announcing the team-up, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin said Enea was another Polish company, after copper producer KGHM and fuel giant PKN Orlen, to embrace modular nuclear reactor technology.
State-run copper and silver producer KGHM in February signed an agreement with US firm NuScale Power to bring small modular reactors to Poland.
In another recent deal, Poland's biggest oil refiner PKN Orlen teamed up with US corporation GE Hitachi to secure its own SMRs.
Enea CEO Paweł Majewski told those at the Congress 590 conference on Wednesday that the company was taking steps toward zero-emission energy production and that it aimed to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
