German design award for Polish library

An innovative library designed by a team of architects in the eastern Polish city of Lublin has won a major German design award, local officials have announced.

City Hall said "German experts on architecture recognised the innovative interior design of Bioteka, the branch of the Municipal Public Library located at Al. Racławickich 22 in Lublin."

The German Design Award is one of the world's most prestigious design and architecture awards, according to Lublin City Hall.

The annual award, now in its 70th year, is given for outstanding achievements in product and communication design, it said.

The evaluation criteria for nomination include the overall concept, sustainability, aesthetics, durability and functionality, according to the lublin.eu website.

Lublin's Bioteka library has been designed by architects GK-Atelier led by Grzegorz Kłoda.
