In the latest protest, the Last Generation climate group blocked a major roundabout in the centre of the Polish capital on Monday, coinciding with the start of the school year.

The protest caused temporary disruptions for parents driving their children to school.

Deputy Minister for Civil Society Marek Krawczyk on Tuesday expressed understanding of the group's motives but said that protests must respect the rights of others.

“Citizens have the right to protest, and that is perfectly acceptable,” Krawczyk said in an interview with public broadcaster Polish Radio.

“However, they must be aware that their protests can disrupt others, especially at a time like the beginning of the school year when parents are driving their children to school,” he added.

Radio Poland's Michał Owczarek has the story.
