Do some Ukrainian war refugees in Poland face a homelessness crisis?

Due to recent changes in the system of benefits, the threat of a homelessness crisis among the most vulnerable of the war-displaced Ukrainians currently residing in Poland has significantly increased.

New Polish regulations, which came into force on July 1st, 2024, crossed out the financial compensations for owners of private homes and small centres where the war refugees from Ukraine live.

Meanwhile, at the end of the first quarter of 2024, approximately 50,000 people benefited from such support, more than half of whom were people from particularly vulnerable groups: with disabilities, chronic diseases, the elderly or families with many children.

Is there a serious threat of a homelessness crisis looming above this group? And what can be done to prevent it?
