The choice was announced during an awards ceremony at the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
The winner was selected from among 15 trees in different corners of Europe that had won national competitions.
Nicknamed Serce Ogrodu (Heart of the Garden), the majestic Polish beech tree grows in the village of Wojsławice some 50 km south of Wrocław in the country's southwest.
Last year, a 180-year-old Polish oak growing in the central city of Łódź was named the European Tree of the Year for 2023.
