Poland mandates school attendance for Ukrainian refugee children

Ukrainian refugee children in Poland who remain outside the Polish education system will be obliged to attend school from September. It is estimated that up to 80,000 Ukrainian students will be enrolled, nearly 20,000 more than previously projected in the spring.

With the new school year just around the corner, the Polish Ministry of Education announced compulsory schooling for Ukrainian children living in Poland. Explaining the decision, the education minister, Barbara Nowacka, highlighted that the Ministry cannot afford another year where tens of thousands of children pretend to receive an education, face social issues, or miss out on schooling, which could lead to developmental delays or regression.
