Over 50,000 women serve in Ukrainian army: official

More than 50,000 women serve in the Ukrainian armed forces, according to an official.

"In addition to 38,000 military servicewomen, we also have civilian women employed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Maliar said on Sunday, as quoted by the ukrinform.net website.

"Therefore, in total, we have more than 50,000 women as part of the armed forces," she added.

More than 50,000 women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including civilian personnel.

"Today, we have more than 5,000 women on the front lines," Maliar also said, according to ukrinform.net.

Some 2,500 female volunteers from several countries, including Poland, are helping organise non-lethal equipment for the Ukrainian army, according to a report earlier this month.
