More than 500 days after the Russian aggression on Ukraine, Poland has not only become its neighbour's advocate and helper, turning into a hub of humanitarian aid passing thru its territory, but it has also managed to spearhead several resolutions that were adopted by the United Nations, including the one condemning the Russian Federation's aggression of Ukraine.
Last month Poland’s solidarity with refugees from Ukraine was praised as exceptional by the United Nations Refugee Agency. "What is the most important while building the Polish position in the context of the war is that we combine the words with the deeds. It is not just that we are vocal at the debates, we are also one of the countries that is seen as helping Ukraine the most in a very practical sense. Poland is very vital, like a lifeline for Ukraine nowadays" the Polish envoy to the UN told Radio Poland.
Poland is also the driving force behind promoting the concept of resilience among the UN member states. In April the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution initiated by this country on “building global resilience through infrastructure connectivity,”.
"Energy, transport and telecommunications ties are necessary to boost the resilience of nations and regions to crises caused by armed conflicts, natural disasters and pandemics, such as COVID-19 which “undermined global supply chains," Krzysztof Szczerski, Poland's Ambassador to the UN, told Radio Poland’s Danuta Isler in New York while discussing Poland's voice at the UN.
