Joe Biden made the remark in an interview with US broadcaster CBS News late on Sunday, Poland’s dorzeczy.pl website reported.
The US president was asked if America could handle continued support for Ukraine’s war effort against the Russian invasion, while also helping another ally, Israel, in its war against the Palestinian Islamist organisation Hamas, according to dorzeczy.pl.
“We're the United States of America, for God's sake," Biden said, stressing that America was “the most powerful nation in the history of the world."
The US head of state declared: "We can take care of both of these and still maintain our overall international defense."
With additional US funding for Ukraine stalled in Congress, Biden also emphasised that such continued financial assistance would help stop Russian President Vladimir Putin's expansionist goals, and prevent direct US military involvement, according to CBS News.
Asked about calls to stop support for Kyiv, the US president said: “Imagine what happens. Let's say we stop, Russia takes over Ukraine and moves into Poland or moves into Belarus. We're at war. We, the United States, at war.”
Biden added: "Have you ever known a major war in Europe we didn't get sucked into? We don't want that to happen."
The US president stated: "We want to make sure those democracies are sustained. And Ukraine is critical in making sure that happens."
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Monday is day 600 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
