Ukraine downs 14 of 17 Russian attack drones, several missiles: military

Ukraine's air defence forces said they destroyed 14 of 17 attack drones and several missiles launched by Russia against Ukraine overnight into Wednesday.

Ukraine Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleshchuk said on the Telegram messaging app on Wednesday that "the Russians attacked Ukraine with 17 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs launched from Cape Chauda, as well as two Iskander-K cruise missiles and an Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from temporarily occupied Crimea."

Oleshchuk added that his country's defences destroyed two Kh-59 guided air missiles that Russia launched toward the Black Sea port of Odesa, Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform reported.

The south command of Ukraine's Armed Forces said on Telegram that 12 drones were downed over the Mykolaiv region and two over Odesa, according to a report by the Reuters news agency.

Energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv was damaged as a result of the attack, disrupting power supply for several hours, Reuters reported.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on its Facebook page that "the Russian army has launched 11 missile strikes, 108 air strikes and 149 MLRS [multiple launch rocket system] attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements in the past 24 hours."

Meanwhile, Ukrainian aircraft on Tuesday "struck 15 enemy manpower and equipment clusters and two anti-aircraft missile systems," according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Ukrainian missile forces hit a manpower and equipment cluster area and three air defense assets of the occupiers," it said.

Kyiv's military alsreported that "Ukrainian soldiers continued to inflict losses on the occupation forces and their equipment, wearing down the enemy along the entire front line."

A total of 83 combat clashes took place on the frontline between Ukrainian and Russian forces during the previous day, according to Ukraine's military.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 777 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
