According to a statement by the UDepartment of Defense, the new package includes USD 150 million worth of weapons and equipment and about USD 2.2 billion in funds to buy interceptors for Patriot and NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine.

The aim is to provide Ukraine with key capabilities, including additional air defense interceptors, artillery and anti-tank weapons.

The package contains munitions such as "missiles for HAWK air defense systems; ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds; 81mm mortar rounds: tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles; and Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems," according to the Pentagon.

Washington will also provide Kyiv with "small arms ammunition and grenades; demolitions equipment and munitions; tactical vehicles to tow and haul equipment; tactical air navigation systems and aircraft support equipment; and spare parts, maintenance, and other field and ancillary equipment."

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, the United States has committed more than USD 54.2 billion in security assistance to help the country defend itself, the UDepartment of Defense said.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest armed conflict in Europe since World War II.

Wednesday is day 861 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
