The Su-25, a ground-attack aircraft used by Russian forces, was brought down by an anti-aircraft unit of Ukraine's 28th mechanized brigade using a portable missile launcher.
"Another Russian Su-25 burned down in the steppes of the Ukrainian Donbas. Starting today, the Russian Air Force has one less aircraft. Its wreckage now decorates the landscape of Donbas," the command said in a statement on Telegram.
The downing of the aircraft marks another setback for Russian forces in the region, where Ukrainian troops continue to resist and push back against the ongoing invasion.
In a separate attack, a fuel depot in Russia's Rostov region, which borders Ukraine, was set ablaze by what the regional governor claimed were Ukrainian drones. The fire, which broke out at a refinery in the Kamianets region, ignited several tanks. Firefighters are currently battling the blaze, and no casualties have been reported.
According to reports, this is the latest in a series of fires at fuel depots in the Rostov region, with another significant fire still being extinguished in Proletarsk following a similar incident last week.
