On Monday, the new venture was officially launched in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Sekerinska, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) Admiral Pierre Vandier, and Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.
The center is a joint initiative of NATO and Ukraine, aimed at supporting Ukraine's Armed Forces in achieving full interoperability with NATO forces, as well as exchanging experiences between Ukraine’s military and the Alliance.
During the NATO Defense Ministers meeting in Brussels in October, it was decided that Polish General Wojciech Ozga would be appointed as the commander of JATEC. The center is expected to be fully operational within a year.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, this demonstrates that "Ukraine is getting closer to NATO and becoming a strategic partner of our alliance." In his opinion the establishment of the first joint NATO-Ukraine initiative shows that "Ukraine is moving closer to NATO and becoming a strategic partner of our alliance."
"We do not plan to send Polish soldiers to Ukraine, and we are not preparing for such a mission. This is Poland's clear stance," emphasized Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in Bydgoszcz.
"Our task is to play a different role – to provide logistical support and strengthen NATO's eastern flank," the politician added.
