As previously reported by Radio Poland, the White House has officially confirmed the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine, including shipments from warehouses in Poland, arguing that it wants to ensure the aid contributes to resolving the conflict.
According to the Polish state news agency PAP, House Foreign Affairs Committee Vice Chairman Gregory Meeks urged the Trump administration on Monday to lift what he called the "illegal" freeze on aid to Ukraine.
Rep. Gregory Meeks issues statement demanding Trump lift his illegal freeze of US assistance to Ukraine.
“If President Trump was truly concerned with securing a just and sustainable peace deal for Ukraine, he wouldn’t have conceded every piece of leverage the United States, our allies, and Ukraine held before even beginning negotiations. He wouldn’t be siding with an authoritarian responsible for war crimes. And he certainly wouldn’t be forcing Ukraine into surrender, while claiming it’s a deal. Instead, he would have continued U.S. support for Ukraine to put it in the best possible position to secure a peace deal for Russia’s illegal and unjustified war against it,” he wrote in the declaration.
“Vladimir Putin knew that if he could wait until the 2024 election, there would be a chance for the Kremlin to have a friend in the White House. Today America is increasingly isolated, our alliances are frayed, and our foreign policy - as the Kremlin spokesperson today said - ‘largely coincides with [Russia’s] vision.’ I don’t know if even Putin could have imagined a better outcome,” Meeks added.
Other Democrats criticized Donald Trump’s decision to freeze aid to Ukraine, while Mike Quigley, co-chair of the Ukraine Caucus, accused him of aiding Vladimir Putin.
Republican Senator Susan Collins also joined the call to lift the freeze.
“This is a critical time for Ukraine. And I managed the Ukraine supplemental last year that provided additional help to Ukraine, and I do not think we should be pausing our efforts. It's the Ukrainians who are shedding blood," Collins told CNN.
Among Republicans, Congressman Mike Lawler likewise opposed the Trump administration's decision, warning that halting support would threaten Europe's stability and the free world.
