Hosted by Finnish President Alexander Stubb and his wife Suzanne Innes-Stubb, the meeting began with a formal welcome at the Presidential Palace.
In a statement on Telegram, Zelenskiy stressed the importance of Europe’s involvement in resolving continent-wide security issues, writing, “Everything concerning Europe’s security should be decided together with Europe.”
Defense and investment talks
Zelenskiy will discuss Finland’s support for Ukraine and efforts to end Russia’s war. Alongside President Stubb, Finnish Finance Minister Riikka Purra, Defense Minister Antti Hakkanen, and Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen are set to participate in the talks. Discussions will continue with local defense industry representatives about potential investments in Ukraine’s defense sector and additional military aid.
The Ukrainian First Lady will hold separate meetings focused on educational initiatives and exchanging best practices in areas such as school safety and meal programs. She is also scheduled to meet philanthropic and cultural figures.
Further engagements
Zelenskiy is set to meet with Finnish Parliament Speaker Jussi Halla-Aho and Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. He will also attend an event at the University of Helsinki on March 19, where President Stubb is expected to deliver remarks.
Finland has provided €2.5 billion ($2.6 billion) in defense aid to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, including its 28th military package of roughly €200 million ($217.4 million) announced on March 13.
