Ukrainian citizen identified as suspect in Thursday’s stabbing attack in Amsterdam

Dutch authorities have identified the suspect in the stabbing incident that took place on Thursday, March 27, at Dam Square in Amsterdam.

As reported through social media by the Amsterdam Police Unit, the suspect is a 30-year-old man of Ukrainian nationality from the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.

The man attacked five individuals with several knives, and he was quickly apprehended by witnesses. Among the victims were a 26-year-old Polish man, a Belgian woman, a young Dutch woman, and two Americans.

The Polish victim was released from the hospital yesterday, while the others remain under medical care but are in stable condition.

The suspect, who was carrying several identification documents, will face court on Tuesday, April 1, to determine the next steps in his detention. The motive for the attack remains unknown.
