"Today, Sweden presented its largest military support package to Ukraine to date, valued at almost USD 1.6 billion," Defence Minister Pål Jonson said in an X post, adding that the new package includes "support for Ukraine’s air defence, artillery, satellite communications, and maritime capacity."

Specifically, Sweden will provide Ukraine with "medical service vehicles; training weapons for m/86 anti-tank weapons; m/58 machine guns; small-calibre ammunition; and approximately 100 vehicles of various types for air base maintenance," according to an announcement.

Additionally, the new support package, Sweden's 19th since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, will include medical equipment and transport vehicles.

The support package includes financial donations to various funds and other multilateral initiatives that procure materiel and equipment for Ukraine, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

'Europe needs to step up its support for Ukraine'

"With this aid package, Sweden demonstrates that more can be done for Ukraine," Jonson said in a statement.

"The package will be of great help to Ukrainian society, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Ukraine’s defence industry," he added.

This latest aid package comes after "Ukraine has requested capabilities related to air defence, artillery, satellite communication, and naval capabilities," according to the Swedish defence ministry.

"Europe needs to step up its support for Ukraine," the Swedish defence ministry said. "Sustained and increased support for Ukraine is crucial for Europe's security. Sweden's 19th military aid package is therefore the largest to date."

Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, starting the largest military conflict in Europe since World War II.

Monday is day 1,131 of Russia'war on Ukraine.
