The truce will begin at 0000 on May 8 (2100 GMT on May 7) and extend through May 10, the Kremlin said in a statement.

Russia’s state news agency TASS quoted a presidential decree directing Russian forces to halt offensive and defensive operations during the period.

The announcement coincides with heightened U.S. efforts under President Donald Trump to broker an overarching peace deal in Ukraine.

Until now, Putin had rejected a full, unconditional ceasefire, insisting it be linked to a halt in Western arms shipments to Kyiv and to limits on Ukraine’s troop mobilization.
