"Regarding the conversation with the president of the United States, which took place a day earlier, it was probably the best conversation we have had during this whole time, the most productive," Zelensky said during his nightly video address.
He noted that they focused on Ukraine’s air defence needs, expressing appreciation for the US support.
"We discussed air defence issues and I'm grateful for the willingness to help. The Patriot system is precisely the key to protection against ballistic threats."
Zelensky also mentioned that the two presidents touched on "several other important matters" that officials from both countries would follow up on in future discussions.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump confirmed he had a positive call with Zelensky and reiterated his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin, criticizing what he described as Moscow’s lack of commitment to seeking a ceasefire.
When asked about supplying additional Patriot missiles to Ukraine, as Zelensky had requested, Trump responded: "They're going to need them for defence... They're going to need something because they're being hit pretty hard."
Russia has recently stepped up aerial assaults on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities.
Just hours after Trump’s call with Putin on Thursday, Moscow launched its largest drone attack on the capital since the war began on February 24, 2022.
