Andrzej Pietrasik received the Golden Heart award at a ceremony in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The distinction was established by Zelensky in December 2022 to honour volunteers, charity workers and individuals who have made a significant contribution to humanitarian aid for Ukraine.

The award was presented during the International Summit of Cities and Regions, a gathering of Ukrainian and foreign local government representatives focused on rebuilding war-damaged infrastructure, revitalising liberated territories and coordinating post-war recovery.

Płońsk has sent dozens of humanitarian convoys to Ukraine since February 2022, delivering supplies to Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Chernihiv and its two Ukrainian twin towns, Ternopil and Berdychiv.

The town also regularly hosts Ukrainian children – including those of soldiers killed, wounded or missing in action – at a holiday centre in the nearby village of Goszczyce.
