Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby announced the move on Friday saying that “these deployments are a one-for-one unit replacements, which leaves our overall force posture in the region - approximately 100,000 — unchanged.”
"The units being replaced will return to their home stations following a proper turnover of responsibilities,” he added.
Kirby also stressed that the replacements were designed to respond to the current situation in Ukraine and were not permanent.
Kirby added that the soldiers were not going to Ukraine, and that their aim was to “ensure the defence of NATO countries.”
He also stressed that the US government continues to provide Ukraine with weapons and material support to aid its defence efforts against Russia.
