Lysychansk

In its latest operational update, posted on social media on Monday morning, Ukraine’s military command wrote: “In the Donetsk direction, the enemy, with the support of artillery, is trying to blockade the city of Lysychansk from the south. It is shelling civilian and military infrastructure in the areas of Lysychansk, Vovchoyarivka, Loskutivka and Verkhnokamyanka.”

Moreover, “Enemy assault aircraft struck near Lysychansk,” the General Staff added.

Meanwhile, “Fighting continues in the Vovchoyarivka area,” whereas “Near Verkhnokamyanka, the Defence Forces inflicted heavy losses on the enemy and forced them to retreat,” Ukraine’s military command said.

After Ukraine's retreat from nearby Severodonetsk, Lysychansk is the last remaining Ukrainian stronghold in the Luhansk Oblast.

The Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts make up the Donbas region. Capturing Donbas, Ukraine’s industrial heartland, currently appears to be the main aim of the Russian forces, news outlets reported.

Bakhmut

In the direction of the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk Oblast, Russian units “fired at our positions with mortars, barrel and jet artillery in the areas of the settlements of Spirne, Berestove, Bilohorivka, Klynove and Zaitseve,” Ukraine’s General Staff wrote.

It added: “The strike of army aircraft was recorded near Pokrovsky. Our soldiers found and neutralised sabotage and reconnaissance groups near Spirne and Yakovlivka, and also repulsed the assault in the direction of Klynove.”

Ukraine’s military command also reported that “The enemy offensive in the areas of Berestove and Vershyna was stopped. The occupiers withdrew.”

Meanwhile, “The enemy carries out arrangement of new positions, in particular and checkpoints around Mykolayivka,” Ukrainian officials said.

Kurakhiv, Novopavliv, Zaporizhzhia

At the same time, in the Avdiivka, Kurakhiv, Novopavliv, and Zaporizhzhia directions, “the enemy fired at the positions of our troops from barrel and jet artillery along the line of contact,” Ukraine’s General Staff reported, adding that Russian forces “struck air strikes in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Vesele, Vuhledar, Shevchenko, Prychystivka, Marinka and Pavlivka.”

Moreover, “An enemy missile and air strike was recorded in the village of Avdiivka,” while “near Marinka, Ukrainian soldiers again suppressed the enemy's attempt to advance in its infancy,” according to Ukraine’s military command.

Elsewhere, “In the Black Sea, the occupiers are holding two high-precision weapons carriers ready to launch missiles,” Ukraine’s General Staff reported.

Monday is day 124 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
