Michał Dworczyk, chief of staff to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, said in a tweet on Tuesday: “Yesterday a group of 32 injured soldiers arrived from Ukraine. Their transport and accommodation in 11 Polish hospitals was the first task accomplished by the governmental Humanitarian and Medical Assistance Team.”

Dworczyk added: “Let’s remember that by defending Ukraine, these young soldiers are also defending Poland’s security.”

He attached a photo of the Ukrainian servicemen arriving by special medical train in Warsaw.

Meanwhile, Deputy Interior Minister Błażej Poboży said in a television interview: “Poland is helping Ukraine, which is heroically defending its territorial integrity and sovereignty and, in truth, all of Europe.”

Poboży told private broadcaster Polsat News that the hospitalisation of Ukrainian troops was "another form of real help extended to Ukraine" by Poland.

The injured Ukrainian soldiers have been accommodated in 11 hospitals across Poland. Three servicemen, for instance, were taken to a hospital in the eastern city of Lublin, state news agency PAP reported.

“The soldiers need long-term, highly specialised treatment and rehabilitation. They have mostly limb injuries,” said a spokeswoman for the hospital, Alina Pospichil.

Wednesday is day 147 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
