The move was announced by White House national security spokesman John Kirby.

Kirby said that, since taking office, Biden has authorised "over USD 8 billion in military assistance for Ukraine, over the course of 17 packages."

Ammunition for 155mm artillery & HIMARS

The latest, 17th package includes “equipment the Ukrainians are using effectively to defend their country," such as 75,000 rounds of 155 mm artillery ammunition and additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), the Pentagon said in a statement.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, national security adviser Jake Sullivan and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley notified their Ukrainian counterparts of the latest assistance package in a call earlier on Monday, Kirby announced.

Last Friday, Ukraine confirmed receipt of four more HIMARS, bringing the total of these advanced rocket systems at Kyiv’s disposal to 16, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

“To meet its [Ukraine’s] evolving battlefield requirements, the United States will continue to work with its Allies and partners to provide Ukraine with key capabilities,” the Pentagon said on Monday.

Monday was day 159 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
