Over the course of two days, the Ukrainian air defense squadron downed nine of the 11 Shahed-136 drones launched by the enemy military, the commander of Ukraine's armed forces, Gen. Valery Zaluzhny, wrote on Facebook on Tuesday evening.

“This is the result of the high-quality training of our air defense gunners, carried out by our Polish brothers,” he added.

“It was Poland that handed over the kits from which - using Soviet missiles - the Ukrainians shot down Iranian drones launched by the Russians. These are the realities of today's war. Thank you, Polish brothers!,” Zaluzhny wrote.

Iran in August sold Russia some 1,000 of its Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, according to reports at the time.

In September, in response to the drone deal, the Ukrainian foreign ministry revoked the accreditation of the Iranian ambassador and ordered a significant reduction in the number of diplomatic staff at the Iranian embassy in Kyiv.

On Monday, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and Shahed-136 drones.

On Tuesday, the Russian army used drones to attack a thermal power plant in the Vinnytsia region in central Ukraine.

Wednesday is day 231 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
