Polish president named most trusted foreign leader in Ukraine: survey

Poland’s President Andrzej Duda is the foreign politician that Ukrainians trust the most, according to a new poll, out this week.

The survey was commissioned by the Kyiv-based New Europe Centre think tank, Poland's PAP news agency reported. 

It said Duda topped the poll, garnering the trust of 86.8 percent of Ukrainians. 

US President Joe Biden came second with an approval rating of 79.4 percent, according to the New Europe Centre. 

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was ranked third, with 73 percent of respondents declaring that they trust her. 

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak came fourth, with an approval rating of 64.2 percent, and European Council President Charles Michel was fifth, with 51.3 percent, the PAP news agency reported.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin topped the list of the most distrusted leaders, with 97.2 percent of Ukrainian respondents declaring they do not trust him. 

Belarusian strongman Alexander Lukashenko came second, with a disapproval rating of 94.3 percent, followed by the Chinese leader Xi Jinping, with 73.1 percent, and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, with 69.3 percent, the poll found. 

Duda tops list for second year running

The New Europe Centre said the Polish president had topped the trust list for the second year in succession.

In 2021, Duda was named the most trusted foreign politician in Ukraine, with an approval rating of 52.5 percent, ahead of Biden at 49.8 percent.  

The 2022 survey was conducted between December 16 and 25 through telephone interviews with a sample of 1,553 people, the PAP news agency reported.

Wednesday was day 322 of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
