Volodymyr Zelensky made the remark in an interview with Poland’s public television broadcaster TVP on Thursday.

The Ukrainian president was asked in the interview about his recent meeting with his Polish and Lithuanian counterparts, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

On Wednesday, Zelensky met with Poland’s Andrzej Duda and Lithuania’s Gitanas Nausėda in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv for trilateral talks in the so-called Lublin Triangle format.

The Lublin Triangle, launched in 2020, is a three-way initiative that brings together Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine. It aims to enhance the three countries' political, economic and social ties while also helping Ukraine regain its territorial integrity and bring that country closer to the European Union and NATO.

Zelensky told TVP: “I believe that this format is not about tactics, but about strategy. The strategy of the Lublin Triangle applies to the things that connect our countries. We are together. There are issues that connect us historically.”

He added: “Our societies support each other. They have taken an understandable geopolitical path. They are going down this path together, in the same direction.”

The Ukrainian president stressed: “This issue must be on the agenda, on the table, at all times, because we are friends and we must not waste these relations.”

He also said that Poland, Ukraine and Lithuania “identify the same risks.”

Zelensky warned: “There is an enemy; currently it’s the aggression of the Russian Federation, which has attacked Ukraine. It’s an attack on our shared values. If Ukraine doesn’t repel this aggression, then it may spread further, sadly targeting our friends from the Lublin Triangle.”

Thursday was day 323 of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
