President Biden will land in Warsaw on Tuesday morning and begin his visit by meeting Polish President Andrzej Duda to discuss "bilateral cooperation" and "collective efforts to support Ukraine and to bolster NATO’s deterrence," John Kirby, a spokesman for the National Security Council, said at a White House briefing on Friday.

During the visit, President Biden "will thank President Duda and, in fact, the Polish people for the $3.8 billion in military and humanitarian assistance that they have provided to Ukraine over the past year and for all the efforts that the Polish people have done to generously welcome more than 1.5 million refugees from Ukraine," the White House spokesman said.

The two-day visit to Poland by the US President, Mr Kirby noted, comes "ahead of the one-year anniversary of Russia’s brutal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine."

On Tuesday evening, President Biden will mark the anniversary with a speech "on how the United States has rallied the world to support the people of Ukraine."

The remarks will also address the ways in which the US is going to "continue to support Ukraine going forward," according to Mr Kirby.

On Wednesday, "President Biden will get a chance to meet with the leaders of the Bucharest Nine, otherwise known as the B9," consisting of nine European countries located on NATO’s easternmost flank.

The visit will follow diplomatic talks at the Munich Security Conference, currently taking place in Munich, Germany.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said in a media interview on Thursday that he would ask Biden to send more American soldiers and military equipment to Poland when the US leader visits Warsaw next week amid Russia's invasion of neighbouring Ukraine.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
